[Solved] Will my files be ok if I reinstall

Post by Anna-Vita »

Hi
My Open Office 4 has been getting wonky. I saw a youtube video that says to upgrade, just uninstall the version you have and install the latest version. Easy enough. But I've written a lot of documents in OO. What will happen to them in the process? I don't want to lose them.
Thanks in advance

You may lose the shortcuts in the /File /Recent Documents list, but the actual files will still be in their original locations and can be opened from the File dialog.

You will not lose them. Your files will be on your drives in the locations that you saved and stored them to.

This said if you are thinking of 'upgrading' you might want to switch from using OpenOffice to using LibreOffice. There are good reasons to do so, some of which are mentioned here: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information
LibreOffice 25.8.1.1 (x64) installed to Windows 11 Pro. 25H2
Apache OpenOffice Portable 4.1.15 [Portable Apps]
For Java I use Adoptium Temurin JRE LTS Releases.
