[Solved] Duplicated text after Copy & Paste in Writer 4.1.14

Post by JPE1 »

When I do a copy and paste sometimes writer duplicates it. Example: I might copy something from an article on the web and paste it to lets say page 3 on a document. The problem is what I pasted on page 3 at times, not all the time, will duplicate what I pasted to lets say page 7, or even page 1. And at times attaching to something already there on a different page in a paragraph sometimes at the bottom or even in the middle of the paragraph leaving me to figure out what belongs there and what doesn't. Anyone else ever experienced this problem or am I doing something wrong????
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Do you have multiple selections when this happens? If you select something then go to a different part of the document and hold the ctrl key down and click you make another selection in addition to the existing one. Or if in "ADD" selection mode (as seen on the status bar) just clicking in different places with the mouse will make multiple additonal selections.

When there is more than one selection each one will be replaced by what is on the clipboard when a paste is performed.

Could you point to such page just to check if it can be replicated or not?
There had been report about that but several years ago IIRC and the object pasted were at the same location, not pages away.

When I do a copy or past I use my mouse by right clicking. Example, when I do a copy a paste lets say to page 3 it will paste there but also might duplicate it self on lets say page 7 or even attach itself to a text already there at the bottom or even in the middle leaving me to figure out what I need to remove. Example, I paste It's Friday morning and the sun is out. And it attaches to another text on page lets say 14 that said It's Monday night and I can see the bright moon and stars. When it attaches itself to a text in will look like this.

It,s Monday night and I It's Friday morning and the sun is out. can see the bright moon and stars.

I can't replicate it because it doesn't do it every time. I was working on something and before I finished it had done this 3 or 4 different times. I have noticed it seems like the larger the document is the more it does this.

I think Hagar Delest was asking for a webpage you're copying off to see whether that might be part of the problem. And you didn't respond to my post either.

If its annoying enough, you have other ways to do the paste - to see if that makes any difference. left click and a keyboard shorcut for paste

Pressing the Esc key first should make sure you're not in "Add" mode and have no 2nd selection. You could use the macro recorder to record pressing the Esc key and then the paste - for a macro that does both together after pressing a shortcut key or toolbar button.

Other thought: are you pasting before the document has fully loaded?

Final one probably - If we can't reproduce the problem and haven't experienced it and there are no bug reports from other people- its going to be difficult for us here to help. It may be specific to your OS or something like that.

When it next reoccurs - stop and try and pin it down - go back a step and see if you can reproduce it.

I could confirm this observation (on LibreOffice; but I can recall same problems on AOO). When I hat copied the main text of an article about manual IP address on a Windows Computer for the first time: some parts (text and images) duplicated and I had to erase them. Later on, when I tried again, this behavior (duplication of pasted contents) was no more detectable... I used the built-in clipboard manager and no other tool. - Cheers

I did not work on AOO but on

OK, I use Linux Mint and I have the Cinnamon DE and XFCE DE installed. I have been doing some reading and I am finding out that sometimes the different DE don't play nice with each other at times so I did a fresh install using only one DE so I will see what happens and hopefully the problem was me and if not I will get back with you. Thank You for your help, much appreciated.
