Writer crashes when I open docs

Hi there. I've been using Writer for a few years with no issues. Lately, I started having this problem. I double-click on a document that I use regularly and have opened in the past week. Writer launches, I see the document for a second and the cursor has the spinning circle. Writer immediately closes and disappears, as if I never tried to open the doc. I also tried opening Writer directly with a blank new document, and then going to 'open', finding the document, and opening it that way but the same thing happens. This has now happened to me on at least 3 documents. In order to be able to access the doc, I've been opening the document in my online Microsoft account, then copy and pasting it back into a new Writer doc.

It's become a real pain. Any ideas on what's going on and how I can resolve it?

Have you tried resetting your user profile? Shutdown OpenOffice and open any folder. Enter
%appdata%\openoffice\4
in the address bar near the top of the window. Rename the user folder to user_old. Restart OpenOffice and test the stability.

If no luck, try to open a blank document and Insert > Text from File, select your document and see if it closes too or not.
