Hi,
My computer just crashed - battery ran out. I booted up and went to recover the doc I'd been working on. OpenOffice took me to the recovery menu when I opened the program. I clicked on the file to begin auto recovery process. but it told me there was a problem that it wasn't allowed access to it. it then said it was corrupted, but could save it in my f:/my documents folder as "field report". I clicked to save it, then went to the folder but there's no such file there. Also, I then went to users/(me)/appdata/roaming/openoffice/4/user/..... but there's no backup folder! I have the options set for saving autorecovery info every 15 mins, so it should be there, no? don't understand what's going on....
I tried searching all my discs, I looked in recycle bin... can't find anything.
Please help.

Re: auto recovery file not existing - help!
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Not exactly the same issue but several hints should apply to your case as well: [Tutorial] The Dreaded Pound Signs: file reduced to ####. Good luck. I hope you had backups.
Note that LibreOffice behaves better in case of crash. See [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice?

Re: Auto recovery file not existing
thanks.... I've look at these but it appears to be no help. there is a tmp folder in local/temp but it has the version I have since opened, but no previous ones found.
what I don't understand here is why there is no backup folder. the path is set for it, but it doesn't exist.
gonna download libre.... but why if it's set up for autorecovery there's no folder there... hmmm...
thanks

Re: Auto recovery file not existing
Backup and autorecovery are different things. Backup has to be activated in the options, and there is no automatic save as backup made when you work. It only creates a copy of the file when you manually save (lots of topics about that in the forum, the feature is the same with LO).
Autorecovery doesn't always work.

Re: Auto recovery file not existing
It may be worth running an undelete utility, such as PhotoRec or Recuva, to see if it can recover a deleted intermediate file.
