[Solved] Incorrect hyphenation of 't at end of line

Post by Didee »

Something strange and new has cropped up when I'm typing a document.

I will be typing along and come up with a word such as "couldn't". Now, suddenly, if the word is at the end of the line, it will put "couldn-" on the line and then put the aprostrophe 't on the next line. If I delete the hyphen, I get "couldnt" all together, but when I insert the apostrophe it goes back to splitting the word up again.

I am using justified margins and have automatic hyphens turned off, so this should not be happening.

I have not changed any settings since I originally set up OpenOffice ages ago and did not have this problem until yesterday.

Can someone help me with this extremely annoying problem?

Edit: Changed subject, was Strange problem with hyphens and apostrophes

Try the LibreOffice. At least a portable version of it.

Are automatic hyphens turned off for both the paragraph style and the paragraph's direct formatting?

Has any of the document been pasted in or originated from another format?

There's a similar problem but for Microsoft Word where the font was suggested as the problem:

Windows 10, Openoffice 4.1.11, LibreOffice 7.4.0.3 (x64)

SOLVED - Re: Incorrect hyphenation of 't at end of line

Whoa, JeJe, thanks.

I read the link you posted and by golly if that isn't the answer. I've switched from straight single and double quote marks to the angled quote marks. Now that I've changed the single quote marks back to being straight, the problem is solved.

What a strange thing that changing something simple like that without a thought would end up causing that annoying problem.

Anyway, all fixed now. Thanks for the help. :)
