Hi and welcome to the forum!

Since the topic in which you had posted was solved, I've moved your post to a new topic.

Have you tried to set the JRE in the Tools > Options > AOO > Advanced menu?

Which version of the Java have you installed? The AOO maybe not support the latest versions of the Java.

Version 8, update 361....is there a way to get an older one, or a newer AOO?

What is the exact name of the Java file you downloaded?

OpenOffice is a 32 bit application and uses a 32 bit Java, which may need to be selected in OpenOffice /Tools /Options/ OpenOffice /Java.

So....no other suggestions? Is there someone I can send my non[sensitive info database to, and perhaps get a .csv or something back? I really need the data!

My AOO 4.1.13 Portable version can recognise this version of the Adoptium Temurin 32 bit Java (this is a really free Java).

https://adoptium.net/temurin/archive/?version=8
Of course it is a very old version of the Adoptium Temurin Java: version 8. You can try a newer one if you need some new features and if it compatible with the AOO: versions 11, 16, 17, 18, 19 of the Adoptium Temurin are available too. YOU MUST check the compatibility of the newer versions.

What's the problem with switching to LibreOffice?
It is really the successor of OpenOffice now.

I have OpenOffice 4.1.13 running and using Adoptium - Temurin JRE x86 18.0.2.1 without issues. I also have LibreOffice running with the same version but with the x64 build.

Above said, Hagar's advice to switch to LibreOffice is good advice. There are several good reasons to make the switch some of which are given here: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information

I have now downloaded and tried Adoptium Temurin JRE x86 19.0.2 with OpenOffice 4.1.13 — works fine.
Also downloaded and tried Adoptium Temurin JRE x64 19.0.2 with LibreOffice 7.4.5.1— works fine.

I wonder if the different OS and AOO version that is being used by OP might have different needs.

Those thoughts did pass my mind too. I don't understand why zappothesane is using such an old version of OpenOffice. If he wants to stick with OpenOffice then at the least he should try installing the latest version.

I think he might need manually to add the path to the JRE in the OpenOffice Java settings. I can recollect having to do so manually years ago, when I used Windows.

Zizi64's screen shot will provide a suitable template, which will need to be modified for the installed JRE on the user's machine.

I always have to manually point OpenOffice/LibreOffice to the JRE folder because I never install JRE to the system: Just download the zip file, unpack to a location of my choice, then set OpenOffice/LibreOffice to use that folder.

Thanks everyone, I tried the Adoptium JRE and it worked!! I do not know why the AOO could not find mind Oracle JRE, but so far, so good. I have another question I cannot find in the online help, but I should probably start a new thread!
