[Solved] Inconsistent hyphen/minus character in Calc

Post by bluewindfisher »

I am having a problem with the use of the hyphen/minus character in Libre Calc.
When I type the minus sign, expecting a - sometimes it will come up with a sign which looks like a longer minus sign. And any attempt to change it fails.
Because it is a different character, it affects the way that data and text is sorted.
Using Find and Replace works to eliminate the longer characters but that is a bit cumbersome.
I have tried to cut and paste it into this post but it reverts to the original smaller sign so I am not able to show you what it looks like. I have tried to attach a file which should show the different characters.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?
I have tried using different fonts but the same thing is happening.
Cheers
Graham

Have you looked at the settings in Tools | AutoCorrect Options?
Slackware 15 (current) 64 bit
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16
LibreOffice 26.2.2.2; SlackBuild for 26.2.2 by Eric Hameleers

Thanks David,
I have had a look at those options and changed the one that seemed relevant.
It works fine as long as I don't type a space after the hyphen. If I do It immediately changes to the longer character.
I can't see any other settings that are relevant.

You could try disabling AutoCorrect if you don't need it - under Options uncheck Use replacement table.
