[Solved] Calc not working since upgrade

Post by WolvercoteJohn »

Hi. I have upgraded to 4.1.12, and now I cannot load the spreadsheet. I enter File-Open, select the file, and wait, but it does not load. I have tried leaving it for a long time now (over an hour, and it used to load up in seconds), but nothing happens. Eventually I tried shutting it down (by clicking on the X) and it returned the message 'Openoffice 4.1.12 is not responding' - and the only option that does anything is 'close the program' - Are there any known bugs with this new version? Is it possible to go back to the old version that I used to use - which read my spreadsheet correctly? If so, should I wait for another version to be released without this problem - Thanks for your help. - John

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Check your task manager (Ctrl+Shif+Esc), if there are several soffice.bin, kill the one that eats th emost memory.
If nothing happens, kill the others too and reopen the file.

If your file worked fine before, you can revert to a previous version. Or try LibreOffice, it is under much more active development. Try a portable version just to check if you don't want to install if.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.

Reboot the PC and try again.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

Thanks. I have installed Libreoffice and this has read the old openoffice calc file and loaded up, so I am back working again. This is a great relief, as I was reluctant to revert to an older version of openoffice - even if there is a bug in the new version - as it leaves me stuck on out of date software. I am now just familiarising myself with libreoffice calc. it seems almost identical to openoffice, so I hope to become fluent on it very soon.
So thank you for your help. - John
