[Solved] View all of my documents

Post by JamesEJ »

Hello Folks. I would like to know how I go about viewing all of my Open Office documents I have on this new PC computer. Is there a Folder to open? Or a URL? I knew what it was once but that was quite a while back. Thanks for your help in advance :).

Re: HOW VIEW ALL MY DOCUMENTS

OpenOffice is software that can open and save documents but it does not provide storage for them. Your old documents are wherever you stored them. If you were saving them on your old computer, they are still there. Did you take any action to move them from the old computer? Are they possibly saved on cloud storage like Google drive or Onedrive?

This question does not apply to any other PC than the one I am currently using. I am sure that I made no overt action to save my documents in any particular place, although I am open to doing that if it is possible. I can open some of my documents using the Windows 10 search function but I do not know the location where they are stored. I need to know where that location is, in order to access all my documents at that location.

Your topic title says "View"; which to me implies "open", either to read or to edit. Do you intend that it means that, or merely to show the names of the document files? If the latter, find a file using Win 10 search function, right click on it and select Properties from the popup menu; note the full file path shown on the Properties window, then use the Win 10 File Explorer to open that folder; you will then be shown all files at that location and can open OpenOffice files by double-clicking on it.

You should perhaps practice using the Win 10 File Explorer to move about the folders on your computer.

Open Navigator.
Set to This PC.
Type *.od* in the Search box.
Click blue arrow.
Repeat with *.doc, *.rtf, *.docx etc.

This topic is very similar to your last ones!
So please JamesEJ, ask a friend to explain you how a computer works, how files are stored in the cloud and on a hard drive.

If you create a new document and save it.. the default path where your documents are saving will show in the save as dialog that pops up.

Or you can get that information from Tools menu/options/Paths.

Thanks for the input. There are some good on-point suggestions, some not. Pretty usual as I recall. I will now sort through them and try to get my presented problem solved. Cheers!

Take a closer look at the search results. The search results should show both the names and locations of the files. If I recall correctly, there should also be an option to open the location in File Explorer.

Have you tried to find them in the Documents directory of the operating system/of yout PC?
That is the default place where the softwares will try to save the documents.
Of coourse you can overwrite this path at every saving procedure.

But YOU MUST remember where YOU saved your own documents.

Please, edit the initial post in the topic: add the word [Solved] at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.

You need to learn some trivially basic things about Windows. Buy a copy of Windows 10 For Dummies

Thanks for this input. It was what led me to the solution, others could not seem to provide. I am grateful for your help.

To be pedantically correct, a few seconds testing will show that when you Save ..., a new document, AOO offers the last folder to which you saved a document. When you Save As ..., an existing document, AOO offers the folder in which the document is located.
