Edit: Split from [Solved] Trouble with a download since that topic is solved and this post is a different person. If you really had the same problem, you could use the same solution, right? It's best for you to have your own topic in case your situation is different.

I apparently have the same problem as Sherrill. Downloads used to be easy but now nothing happens except a a small screen opening with which I can't do anything. I can't even show it here because your system isn't user friendly.

Perhaps you could help us to help you by describing your problem in some detail, as MrProgrammer suggests in his post immediately above yours.

Perhaps it is just choosy about whom it befriends Exactly what are you trying to do? If you can explain a little more distinctly what you want, it is likely that someone can guide you. A problem commencing or finishing a download may be a problem with the download mechanism on your computer, with your ISP (might they have blacklisted the download sites?) or with the actual download site being offline for maintenance (unusual and shortlived). None of these is caused by the OpenOffice program.

If a download has taken place and completed, then there may be a problem with installation; on a Mac that often is caused by Mac Gatekeeper which doesn't like programs not from Mac sources. Such problens are often cured by the methods in described in Q05/A05 in Tutorial: Mac FAQ.

At a guess - I am not a Mac User or expert = you are opening the download rather than installing it, which I think on a Mac is a matter of positioning it in a special system folder, but as I emphasise, I am not a Mac User or expert, so treat my advice accordingly.

Did you follow the instructions in the Mac section of Instructions for Downloading and Installing Apache OpenOffice 4.0, 4.1 Versions? There are also instructions in Q03/A03 in Tutorial: Mac FAQ.

Can you describe exactly what steps you took that led you to what you get according to the screen capture?

Hi Rob, my Mac is set on "App Store and other developers" and the screen shot is what opens when I click on this downloaded link:

Yes, I did check the instructions but in the end it opens the same webpage which I downloaded from before, the one depicted by SPC in a previous comment.

Please confirm that you are really using MacOS 10.13.6, which was released by Apple four years ago. If you are using a later release of MacOS, you should tell us that. Recent changes to MacOS may have affected the download or installation process. It would be a mistake to assume that OpenOffice has been tested by the developers with a MacOS version which is less than a few months old. Testing sophisticated software like OpenOffice takes time, and then diagnosing and correcting issues takes even more time.

This is the screen I see after downloading Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.11_MacOS_x86-64_install_en-US.dmg (176.9 MB) and opening it with Finder on MacOS 10.14.6. Instructions for the next steps are in Q03/A03. Q65/A65 discusses downloading with Safari. If MacOS opens your download and then presents a View → As List screen of the file contents in Finder, your MacOS operates differently than mine. The DMG file should contain OpenOffice.app (405MB), a LICENSEs folder, a READMEs folder, and an alias called Applications. Why would the main folder that you show indicate it was modified "Today at 7:09"!? A download from Apache (which was surely created before 4.1.11 was announced on 2021-10-06) should not have that modification time. My download does not contain ext_libraries, extras, or main folders as shown in the attachment of your second post, so I have no idea what you've done. Perhaps you should look at the LICENSE, NOTICE, or README files in your download to see what software you have there. Open them with TextEdit.

The MacOS download is a compressed file. It's like ZIP, but uses the standard Mac format for that, DMG (Disk iMaGe). When the file is opened, the operating system displays the decompressed contents. It contains the OpenOffice application and a link to the special system folder, /Applications. Dragging the application into that folder's alias is all that's required. This is explained for Mac users in detail in Q03/A03. The MacOS installation process does not need an "installer" program as with damned Windoze, or a package manager (dpkg or rpm) as with Linux.
