Everyone,
My spell checker doesn't work. Every word is underlined. I don't know why my computer (or the software) insisted on asking me to register again. It has happened several times. This time it would not let me ignore the new registration and then the spell checker will not work.
I tried to follow the instructions for changing back to the old user profile but cannot find the file in version 4.1.7. I love Open Office but this is frustrating.
Thank you for your help.
Ken

Reset your user profile - see Resetting the user profile. Or see the sticky first post in the Writer forum.

There is no option to "ignore" the new registration. If you mean "cancel", then AOO should shut down immediately and the "new registration" should appear again when AOO is restarted.Kenneth Click wrote:This time it would not let me ignore the new registration and then the spell checker will not work.

When every word is underlined, this indicates one of two things: the language is set incorrectly or the dictionary is broken. Resetting the user profile is for the second case, but try to reinstall the dictionary first. And read this tutorial to start with.

Re: Spell checker doesn't work
This usually occurs when a computer has been shut down unexpectedly, which can happen when a computer or program crashes and there is not time to write the OpenOffice housekeeping file to disk; It can also happen if a computer is powered off before the housekeeping file has been written out to disk from the hard drive's internal buffers. That this has happened several times to you suggests that you may close the laptop lid or power off slightly too hastily. After you close the program, use the computer shut down mechanism to turn it off, then wait a few seconds for the disk buffers to flush before closing the lid or pulling the plug.Kenneth Click wrote:Everyone,
