OpenOffice document locked

Post by PixieLynn »

I know this has been discussed here, but I am not finding my exact difficulty. Long story short, I have a book near completion, and save always as the odt. No problem.

But today, my computer had a hiccup and it cut out on me. I shut it off, when i could get it back up, OO would not open for me. It treated me as if i was just loading for the first time. So, I put in what I thought I had loaded initially some months ago.

The file I am looking for is now locked. I don't know why. Whether because iI didn't use proper login? Or it locked as laptop went down.

When I ask to open it as a copy, or a read only file, I find only 15 (not 30+) pages of only pound signs. Noooo words at all. I am stunned -actually, since I just found it, I am still in quite a bit of shock. I don't know how to find my book!

And i never locked the document as the laptime is mine alone, and I'd have no reason to. I can resurrect some of it. But oh my lord! Not half of it!

Help?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Power outage is a common cause for this issue.
See: [Tutorial] The Dreaded Pound Signs: file reduced to ####. Good luck. I hope you had backups.

For future peace of mind, you might consider installing the Timestamped backup extension, which will allow you to make multiple, timestamped backups of your document. Note that this must be invoked separately from your normal Save.
