Why can't OpenOffice files open on a network drive when conn

Post by qutuzodu »

Hello. For some reason, OpenOffice files (Windows 10) do not open on a network drive when connected via WiFi.
On cable, everything is no problem.

AOO can.

Start AOO. Go File > Open. Navigate to the file on the wi-fi connected disk. Open it.

Do the same with Notepad and a .txt file on the disk.

Tell us exactly what happens each time.

Similar issue here

We have a linux file server with samba - my old PC and others in the office have no problem double-clicking from Windows Explorer to open a file

However I recently bought a new PC with Windows 10, now when I double click on a server file all I get is a quick splash screen but the doc does not open
If I use the oo File Open dialogue, I can open the file
Weird eh?

If you want help then do the following - I copied it from the post immediately above yours.
Start AOO. Go File > Open. Navigate to the file on the wi-fi connected disk. Open it.

Do the same with Notepad and a .txt file on the disk.

Tell us exactly what happens each time.

The WiFi connection may use a guest account where access to the internal network is blocked. Can you see local computers or printers while connected via WiFi?

Hi John & Villeroy

All of our PC's are connected by network cable. My issue has nothing to do with wifi

Maybe I hijacked the wrong thread, the subject line matches my issue, but I see the original poster's issue was regarding wifi

Take Care

The Samba (SMB) has more than one version in the Windows, and the Win 10 not support the older versions by default.
You must switch it on manually in the Win10 - if the server uses the SMB 1.0. (Sorry I have Hungarian Win 10):
