Just got a refurbished ibook with panther, thought I'd check out oo. I installed X11, then dragged OpenOffice 2.1 to Applications folder. When I open this file, it asked about using existing fonts. I selected OK. Then, X11 opens and OO closes. In X11, all that it says is "bash-2.05b$" and nothing happens. I tried closinig all apps and trying again, but it just does this every time. Help!

Try starting OpenOffice.org from the commandline (the bash$):
/Applications/OpenOffice.org\ 2.1/Contents/program/soffice
The above line should hopefully work, assuming that you have installed OpenOffice.org in the Applications folder. Using the tab key to auto complete, is really useful. It could be that the location of soffice has moved to a different folder since then.
