Post by sutty68 »

Yesterday Open Office suddenly froze and then closed and i lost the database i was working on. The said database will now not load. Is there anyway of finding this database so i can continue my work. (the database was regularly saved). :?

Go to menu:Tools>Options>Paths, look up the directories for backup files and for temporary files.
Look for some copy of your database file in the backup directory.
In the temp. directory look for directories named like "lu111574z0ysi.tmp" with similarly named files in them. Copy anything like that to a safe place.
Upload the broken database document so we can see if it can be repaired.

Change the file name extension from .odb to .zip (yes, it's a zip actually) and open the file with a zip tool. Can you extract the "database" directory at least?

I have managed to save a version of the database which is a few days behind using a program called Recuva (better than nothing i suppose). Still thank you for your help.

In order to avoid this, this forum's volunteers recommend to extract the embedded HSQLDB from the containing document and run it as a stand-alone database.
Put a copy of your database into a separate folder, install my macro module ExtractHSQLDB and run it.
Now you will lose no more than the latest modified record when the office suite crashes. And you have an option to install a modern HSQL2 driver with enhanced functionality (if needed).
