[Solved] OpenOffice 4.1.7 doesn't load
I downloaded OO4.1.7. After some trouble I managed to get it to open, but the start page doesn't show up. When I open it from the applications folder, I get a start page but the version shows as 4.1.5. What has happened to 4.1.7?

Welcome to the Forums.
I'm going to recommend you read the Mac FAQ specifically Q03/A03 which deals with installing on a Mac.
If the start page is showing 4.1.5, then I suspect that you didn't install 4.1.7 and your system is still seeing the 4.1.5 version.
Installing OpenOffice is not the same as downloading it. More information in the FAQ.

I did as you said. Everything works fine now. Computer recognises the new build. I can write documents.
However
Every time I load a document I get a General error, general input/output error window, big red cross and something about basic error.
Explain this to me and what I can do to rectify.
