[Solved] Mac Hangs when saving any AOO file

Post by davehineman »

:bravo: A few days ago, I created a big drawing and couldn't save it. No error message is presented. If I switch to another open program, like Safari, then come back, the save dialog is active again. Hitting Save or Cancel, both choices freeze the window and the document never saves. I killed the program and was able to recover the file, but it still refused to save. I opened another file and couldn't close it, either, so then I had two files to recover after killing the program.

I can, however, switch users and AOO works fine under another user. I did First Aid. The Mac wanted to install an update, so I allowed it. I also deleted OpenOffice and reinstalled. I shut down, powered off, rebooted. I have not resorted to animal sacrifice.

All the search results I have found are very old, so I'm hoping that some newer information is available. Besides wiping out and creating a whole new user account, has anyone actually identified the cause and solved this problem? I imagine it's a permissions issue and some file somewhere has an errant setting that is preventing disk access to OpenOffice. Would be nice to fix the actual problem without wiping and rebuilding my entire user workspace.

I'm using OpenOffice 4.1.7 on a Mac running the very latest Catalina, 10.15.4.

Thanks for any help you can offer,
Dave.

Q02/A02 solved it.

Update: I had already deleted the user folder and relaunched AOO, but it still wouldn't save any files. When I submitted the post and got the same answer, it worked this time! Thanks again.
