[Solved] Icon remains on desktop

Post by Danenters »

Edit: Split from Icon on Desktop
It's been a year since I went back and forth on this board about the OO hard drive icon remaining on my Mac's desktop. The same issue has been addressed by other OO users, who also appear to still be searching for a solution:

Using a MacBookPro running on OS Mohave 10.14.6. I have OO installed in my dock's Apps folder. The OO program runs perfectly, after I launch it from the Apps folder. The OO icon correctly appears in the desktop's dock. But, the OO gray hard drive icon remains on the desktop. The only way to get rid of it is to shut down or restart. And then it reappears on the desktop, after I restart and relaunch the OO program from the Mac app's folder.

If I try to eject the OO hard drive icon from the desktop, a notice pops up that OO cannot be ejected since other programs are using it.

I always use the .ODT file extension when I create a new OO file or convert a former Word file to OO. I also still have Word installed on my Mac; I am not aware if that is causing some conflict

I welcome a OO / Mac OS expert resolving this ongoing issue.

OpenOffice was installed incorrectly. You do not put OpenOffice in the "dock's Apps folder". Read [Tutorial] Mac FAQ Q03/A03 and follow the instructions exactly. Neither the OpenOffice Installation Guide nor the Q03/A03 summary mention "the dock".
