Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
If you're trying to use Help -> Check for updates, then this is a known problem, but with the server, not OpenOffice.
Even if this was working, it would just direct you to download the latest version of OpenOffice, which is 4.1.7, from https://www.openoffice.org/download
The only other exception that I've heard of, but not encountered myself, is in regards to installed extensions having an update, but, again, you would just have been referred to the correct site to download the updated extension. Many extensions have not been updated since version 4 came out, and some not even as recent as that.

It is in reference to pulling data from a website. I had the download problem too lolRusselB wrote:If you're trying to use Help -> Check for updates, then this is a known problem, but with the server, not OpenOffice.

We need more information. What AOO module exactly? How do you try to get the data? By code?...
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.

Does your problem also involve Confluence?

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
Try downloading the data to your local hard disk, then inserting it into Calc. OpenOffice applications have difficulty opening files from locations in which OpenOffice does not have read/write/file create permissions.

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
My suggestion was merely a step on faultfinding of your problem.
If you wish to sort this, try some directed Internet queries; I am aware that this problem has come up on Forum quite frequently. You have access to the same search tools that I have.

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
Why don't you try giving us information to assist us. Try
1. Upload the spreadsheet causing the problem and tell us where the problem is
2. tell us which web site you are attempting to get data from and what data you want
3. Tell us exactly what you want to do as in "I want to click the link in the attached spreadsheet so it gets x, y and z from http://www.abc.com/somewhere" or "When I open the spreadsheet I want it to go to http://www.abc.com/somewhere and get x, y and z" or "What ? ..."
We might then have a better chance of understanding what you are trying to do. As it is you are saying "My car won't start - what's wrong with it?"
Have you read Linking to external data on page 270 in Chapter 10 - Linking Calc Data (Sharing data in and out of Calc) of the Calc Guide? It tells you how to find data on a web site and get it into Calc. If you have read it what don't you understand?

I am so sorry guys. I am not good at explaining my problem. Here is a picture of the error attached

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
That is no help.
Please read this post above, answer the questions posed and give the information asked for and, especially, upload a .ods file showing the problem.
Are you following the instructions in the Calc Guide? If so, at what point does it go wrong?
Does a test work on any other web site? The attached file created with LibreOffice and not AOO uses Sheet > Link to external data ..., and downloads data from https://www.poundsterlinglive.com/ HTML_1 and HTML_2. Download it and see if it works with AOO.

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
I have done more testing.
1. My file works on back level AOO 4.3.? which is all I had access to.
2. It appears that, as the error message suggests, https://wellsfargo.com/mortgages prevents Calc from accessing data on its website. I don't know how to overcome it.

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
Thank you John... It seems to not work for more than Wells Fargo. I only seem to get it to work with very simple basic web sites. I heard others having similar issues without a solution. It may be a known issue already. I am not sure.John_Ha wrote:I have done more testing.

| Edit: Edited to correct the address typo |
It is difficult to pinpoint whether it is the application or the website causing the problem.
Try LibreOffice. After well over 20 years of using AOO i changed to LO this month because AOO is dead and no longer effectively supported. This is the second post in a few days where something fails in AOO but works in LO.

In LO the first gave a message "No named ranges available in the selected document". The second worked for HTML_All.Amylase wrote:I have the same problem with sites that do not require a password too such as

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
From my research, it appears to work for some people and not for others. I actually got a few web sites to work but most seem to fail. I even got Wells Fargo to work once lol. I think switching to Libra Office might be the best suggestion I heard.

Re: Error Reading Data from the Internet
In my tests LO seemed to work better than AOO.
It could be the web site. Both AOO and LO seem to set a time limit for the web site to respond - see [Solved] Extending timeout value for links to external data. Some of the suggestions there may help - eg download the web data to your PC separately and link the PC data to Calc.
The data you want to extract from the web page must be in a labelled form.
