Annoying separators

Post by Nate879 »

How do I remove separators? They appear when copying text from any web page, and are annoying.

It is also extremely annoying that the table toolbar pops up whenever I select a table. How do I stop it from popping up?

It's also annoying that we have to enter an email address just to post messages. That is annoying and provides no benefit. People can simply use fake email addresses from tools like Firefox's "Temporary Inbox" extension. Some people don't have an email address, and are locked out of the forums.

1. You select them, copy & paste them to the replace box and remove them. Or you just delete them. To me that's part of the game. On a side note, when you copy & paste from web sites and the like, no single word processor will not copy a lot of crap as well. Live with it.

3. The benefit isn't for you but for the forum admins; also it's hard to imagine that people with web access don't have an e-mail addy. If you misbehave the forum admins will usually send you a message by mail and if you continue misbehaving you get a ban, and are informed of that by e-mail. That's hard to do if you don't have an e-mail addy. On some forums you get an outright ban if it turns out that your e-mail bounces.

How do I remove separators?
Can you be a little more specific? What do the "separators" look like?

Can you give us a URL (web address) for a page you are trying to copy from?

Are you pasting into Writer? Calc? Impress?
How do I stop [the table toolbar] from popping up?
For all the context-sensitive toolbars:
• If you dismiss the toolbar itself (click on the "X" to close it's little window), it will stay "off" only for the current context: once you leave the current table, e.g., it will pop up again when you again enter a table.
• If instead you use the View > Toolbars on/off, that setting is saved and persists, even across program sessions or reboots, until you change it again.

You can also "dock" the context-sensitive toolbars and they will turn on and off with the context, but not interfere with your document view, which is the primary problem with floating toolbars.

Sometimes, it seems that you have to actually exit and re-start OOo to get the new setting to take effect.

For some good suggestions for managing these pesky little devils, try this: Context-sensitive Toolbars.
It's also annoying that we have to enter an email address just to post messages.
We are also interested in providing a way for people to post questions without registering. However, it is not a trivial task to implement such a policy. Until we figure out some way to do it, no one can post anything without registering, and to register you have to provide a working email address. We don't care if it's a throw-away address; we only need a response from the address as evidence that you are not a spambot.

Have you read the Forum Survival Guide?

Please read the Survivor's Guidelines at the first post in this forum. One Q per topic. I am going to answer your third point, but because you've asked a couple of issues, in replying the other supporters might now skip this post. We require an email to limit the amount of SPAM that we would otherwise receive. Experience has shown that is we don't enforce captcha + email confirmation then half the user entries and posts for a high profile forum like this one would be SPAM. The moderators and supporters want to spent their time helping genuine users rather than weeding out spam.

Quickly turning to your other Qs: Q1. The problem is that <hr> tags become a paragraph marker with the style Horizontal Line and it is difficult to search for paragraph markers in Writer. Q2. Enter the table then doc the table toolbar in the toolbar area at the top of the screen. Do Alt-VTTT to select the Table tollbar and hit enter to hide it. It won't come back now unless you enable it again.
