[Dropped] Help printing a booklet/brochure

Post by teamgwho »

I downloaded a template that set up the margins and everything for a booklet. brochure (pic 1) when I am done writing. I go in and select brochure and print all the left side pages. then all the right side pages. except for one detail (pic 2). open office takes both the left and right side and shirnks them to print them on the left side of the page.

no clue how to resolve.

In File /Print, Page Layout tab, select Brochure. Then, on the general tab of the print dialog press the Properties button and make sure that your paper is set to A4 (or US Letter) Landscape.

You need to check the Properties button for the paper size, as sometimes (particularly if you have set your pages to be A5 (US brochure). the print dialog will think you want to use A5 paper in the printer.

Please upload your real ODF type sample file here. Change all of contetnt to dummy text - if the is sensitive. We can guess only without seeing all of the settings of the pages in your file.

The screenshot shows that your page is set to 2 columns. But they are on a single page, thus printed as a single paper page.
You should change the size of the page so that the content of each "column" fits the whole (smaller) page.

Please add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Try the attached file - I assure you that it does print correctly - when the settings are correct - to give A5 pages on A4 paper. If it does not print correctly for you, then come back to us - you will have overlooked some setting - most likely /File /Print : Properties button setting printer to A4, Landscape
Edit: Looking at your photos again, I think Hagar is correct in supposing you have set your page to use columns. Set each column content as a separate page (be it A4 or A5 - adjust if US Paper sizes) and Brochure layout will shrink the page to fit the folded paper. My preference is usually to set my pages in A5, then I have precise control over final type sizes, and am not at the mercy of the shrink process, which can often result in a smaller type-size being nearly illegible on the final page. If you can get it in Canada, A4 paper is good to use, as images on the A series of papers shrink consistently from size to size.

I have found that, for some reason, when printing from the "brochure" setting OpenOffice either increases the anticipated size of the document (e.g., OO tries to print a letter size document as legal size) or reduces the size of the copy. The best way I have found to avoid this is to export the copy as a .pdf file and print it from pdf Reader or Acrobat as a booklet. (I know that this is an old thread, but this tip may help somebody who finds it in a search.)
