Re: How to turn on the "grid" switch in OOo 2.3.1 version?
Tools > Options > OOo Writer > Grid
I'm not sure if this is on a standard toolbar somewhere--if it is, I can't find it. You could add it to an existing toolbar, or make your own, to make it a little easier to switch on/off.
I don't know how the grid works in MS Word, but the OOo Writer grid does not affect the text in any way--it only affects graphics objects that you add to the document. The grid points are also very difficult to see.

You can make the grid visible in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org Writer > Grid. I don't know about Word 2003, but Word 2000 uses lines for the grid. Writer uses points only for the grid--no lines. You can change the color of the grid points in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Appearance.

File a request in the issue tracker (but first search to make sure it's not already filed.)engine wrote:Thank you guys.

You can change the color of the grid points in Tools> Options> OpenOffice.org> Appearance; scroll down to the Text Document grouping. I don't remember what the default color is; mine to light magenta, a color that seems to help with visibility. Another thing you might want to do is increase the grid subdivision number (Tools. Options> OpenOffice.org Writer> Grid). The larger the subdivision number, the more points that appear in the grid between the resolution points. But, of course, it will also change the grid's influence on graphics, if you use snap to grid.
Cheers!

I made it finally.
Appearance is tuned the same as that in MS office2003.
Light gray
