I have been using OOo for some 4 to 5 years now. At the office I have a small seven machine network, reports are written and saved on an XP Pro file server (workstations have XP Home) opening and saving of OOo documents, particularly on auto save, is ridiculously slow, so bad, that I have had to turn auto save off as the save can be some 20 to 40 seconds.
To add a bit more, this was not always like this, I upgrade regularly and am not sure if this changed at one of the upgrades.
A report is typed by one person, passed onto another for finalisation, in the past, if the saving was slow, I have copied the entire document and pasted it onto another letterhead template and the saving would improve considerably, but even this appears to have stopped working recently.
Two members of our office use M$ word as well and do not experience the same problems with a doc file, so have to believe this is an OOo problem, possibly something that has creeped into the document format, as we are always using older reports as templates.

Re: Long saving over network
Perhaps it comes from the printer settings. The configuration is saved in the file so if a printer has been removed, perhaps OOo first tries to see it on the network. Try to print the document with a printer available (the best would be a virtual printer for PDF, which is local). Then, see if the save operation on the network has improved.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.
Re: Long saving over network
I am using Ubuntu 7.10
Open Office 2.3
Samba File Server
I have a similar problem. When saving locally I have no issues. When I save to a remote drive (SSH or SMB file share) the save takes too long. On the Windows box this does not happen. I have several printers installed, but the default printer in the one connected to my USB port. I have the same problem on two different Ubuntu boxes with two different network connections.
Any thoughts?

Have you tried with a virtual printer as default printer for the document ?
