[Issue]Spell Check suggestions always BLANK in Text Document

Running Mac OS 10.4.10
Mac Mini pentium duo chip
2 gigs of ram

In OpenOffice Text Document the spell checker catches misspellings but never makes a suggestion. why is that?

Do you have an example? Could be there's nothing that seems close enough to suggest.

Also, could you please take a screenshot of what you're seeing and post it here? (See [Forum] How to attach a document here if you need information on how to do that.) I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, and before going any further, I would like to.

so here is a screen shot. the dictionary is finding misspellings yet it is not offering suggestions for even the easiest of fixes.

At the bottom of the main Writer screen, what does it say in the middle 'pane' - it will indicate what language the spell checker will use to check that document. If this is set to a language that isn't installed on your machine it might explain what is going on.

This is from my machine, with the area of interest circled in red.

Are you really using 2.3.x - you should upgrade to 2.4.1, 2.3 is deprecated now.

Hm, well that's strange you should definitely have a dictionary of that type installed as standard. Let me check a few things.

I have Mac OSX Leopard, running the Beta 3.0 and have the same screen with no suggestions. It does identify the word is misspelled, but makes no suggestions to fix it. I misspelled "spelling', and it identified it, but offered no suggestions. I then manually added the word "spelling" to the dictionary and then when it encountered "speeling", it suggested "spelling". But prior to me adding the word to the dictionary, there was no suggestions. I do have English (USA) in the center section of the bottom of the screen.

Was there any resolution to this email thread?

The most important is to have the blue checkmark in front of the language used:

It seems that's a new bug for Mac platform:
- Issue 91826 - Spell Checker offers no suggestions
- Issue 92771 - Spell checker doesn't offer any suggestions

Thanks for the reply. English (USA) has the blue check just like in your image. Also looked in the Options|Writing Aid|Language and it is checked with the blue mark as in your image there as well. Please let me know the next step. Is this a bug?
