OOo writer 2.4.1 crashes a lot with spell checker

Post by hlndr »

Mine crashes practically everytime I run the spell checker. And I don't get an error message. It simply freezes up on me (and freezes up anything else I may have running at the time) and I have to do a CTRL/ALT/DELETE to close it out. I can't count how many crash reports (sent during document recovery) I have sent. It started doing this after I installed the upgrade. The version before this one never did this. It's really frustrating since the document it recovers after it crashes is never the entire document I was working on.

Re: OOo writer (2.4.1) crashes - A LOT

OOo is generally very stable. If you're seeing frequent crashes, it's likely there is a problem with the installation on your system.

The general troubleshooting steps are:

Try a new user settings profile: rename or replace your own, or try running OOo under a new login.

Remove all traces of previous OOo installs (use Add/Remove, then do a file search), then re-install OOo.

Sometimes other software on the system (e.g. security) can conflict, but that's less common and I don't know what the best way to diagnose that is--run in safe mode, maybe?

As this issue is different from the initial, I've split the topic. Please read the Survival Guide for the forum.

BTW, what OS? You should update your profile in the User Control Panel (top left of the window).
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.
