Which version of Calc has the line tool in drawing toolbar?

I couldn't draw and format simple lines so posted a question here.

Was told it's in the drawing toolbar, second item from left.

My version doesn't have that specific tool. It's 4.1.3

Which version should I update to, don't want a "beta" version,
I want one that's been debugged and proven to work.

Have you checked /View /Toolbars /Draw?

By default every version since version 1 has the line tool on the drawing bar at position #2.
Under menu:Tools>Customize... tab "Toolbars" you can customize your toolbars.
Sometimes the office settings become corrupted somehow. Then you should reset your profile folder as described here: viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426 (shut down office, rename %APPDATA%\OpenOffice\4\user, start again)

Yes, the View/Toolbars/Drawing is opened and visible.

From left to right it shows a rectangle, an ellipse, and then a free form line, which is the only line shown in that toolbar.

I'll try resetting as suggested, thanks for the info.
