when it happens...
you know the situation: you have to edit some sentences in the middle of an already written paragraph and the new text you digit starts deleteing the following old one.
you have then to press the INS key to stop it.
at the bottom of Writer's interface (status bar) i have a tab which say INS or SSC depending on mouse clicks
i would like to keep it stuck with INS because SSC deletes old text when inserting new one.
is there a way to customize this setting?
is there's a way to permanently keep the INS key isnerted to avoid an unwanted "new text deletes old text" situation?

Re: insert new text delete old text
Tools -> Customize, select the Keyboard tab, hit Insert to select it, press Delete to remove the keyboard binding to toggle Insert/overwrite, click OK and that's it.

Re: insert new text delete old text
i changed that as you suggested,
however on the status bar the INS / SCC tab is still functioning if i click over it.
what i asked was to have the"insert mode" permantely enabled and the "overwrite" mode permanently disabled.

Re: insert new text delete old text
I actually thought this was a duplication of a post in the older forum. I'm afraid that you can hide the entire status bar but that you can't disable separate buttons on it. But I may be mistaken.

Re: insert new text delete old text
The best thing to do is bind it to something useful. Try binding it to show/hide the Statusbar for example, or Insert Footnote directly — anything you find useful — then it won't work for insert/typeover.

Bhikkhu Pesala, what do u mean "binding"?
my problem is that i have troubles to explain my point becuase of language...
ok, let me try to explain it again.
when i open a writer document on the status bar it's usually INS mode.
sometimes for reasons i don't know it changes to SSC mode and if i don't notice it , the annoying "net text deletes old text" situation happens.
what i asked is: there's a way to avoid SSC mode to be activated?
thanks for help and patience

To bind means to tie together. It is computer jargon for making the keyboard do what you want it to.Tommy wrote:Bhikkhu Pesala, what do u mean "binding"?

If you find that this causes more trouble than its worth, just assign the key to another function, from the Tools, Customize, Keyboard dialogue.
I assigned it to show and hide the Status line. This saves screen space, but the status line is easily restored if it is needed.
Select the Insert key as the shortcut key, and select the function you wish to assign to the Insert key from one of the available categories, then click the Modify button to change the action. Click on delete if you just want to remove the Insert/Typeover function that is the default.

Re: insert new text delete old text
thank you pessala, you solutions is very good.
i did not realize that the SSC mode was activated by hitting inadvertly the ISN key.
that's why i kept asking how to disable the SSC mode and i didn't realize that it was already done by disabling the INS key.
thanks for your help
