Hello, I have recently been using open office. For the most part I am using the spread sheet for budgets or document for letters etc. Frustratingly when I have been emailing these docs to word and excel users they are not compatible and cannot open them. I am not sure of which program I need to save my documents in so that microsoft works users can open them? I would be grateful for any advice about this.

MS Office versions aren't compatible among themselves, either. For best portability of files, choose the Office 97/2000/XP format.bex wrote:Frustratingly when I have been emailing these docs to word and excel users they are not compatible and cannot open them.
Microsoft Works is not supported by either MS Office or OOo. Do the recipients need to be able to edit the files you send? If not, you could export them to PDF.bex wrote:I am not sure of which program I need to save my documents in so that microsoft works users can open them?
I'm not sure if Works has plug-in filters that can read MS Office file formats, but that might be one thing to try for these users (again, saving your files as 97/2000/XP). Otherwise, I'd suggest encouraging them to install OpenOffice so they can simply use the open document format.
Cheers!
