Annotating Impress in slide show mode

I use Impress presentations in the class room, and would like to save annotations I make on the fly. (Actually, I'd really like this capability integrated into Smartboard software, as it is in PP) Is there any tool usable in the presentation mode that can capture such freehand edits?

What exactly do you mean by annotations you "make on the fly" and "freehand edits"? What kind of annotations are these---where and how are you making them?

You can make freehand marks on a slide with the mouse, but the feature doesn't work that well and the marks are not saved.

I project slides on a "smart board" and can then create freehand annotations on the board, on top of the slide. With Powerpoint, I can then opt to save the annotations before I close the slide show, and the resulting file will have those freehand annotations (formulae, clarifications, ...) captured so the students can get a modified copy of the slides, as created in class.

Why is this marked "Solved"? This is real need for those of us in academia that want to use OO. I mark up my slides during a presentation, often even making new slides during a talk. I want to save these annotations so the slides can be posted to the web. I have downloaded and tried it in version 3.0 and I still can't find a way to save the annotations (or change their color and line width which would be nice too).

I guess in this case, "Solved" would be better stated "resolved", in that the question is definitively answered, unfortunately, in the negative.

You don't need to guess whether the feature's status has changed. Follow the issues in the tracker; that will tell you whether any progress has occurred and what the time frame is for addressing the issue.

I and others keep using academia as the driver for this capability, but in my previous life in industry, I used it fully as much. Meetings and presentations (including academic lectures) ideally involve 2 way transfers of information, and if you're going to use an Impress presentation to guide the meeting, the most effective way to record discussion is for the meeting leader to capture the meeting's consensus on the slide, then save and distribute the presentation as a record of the meeting.
