[Solved] OXPS extensions

Post by stanco »

I have been using spreadsheets with the .ods extension for many years. Rarely do I need to print out the documents. However, today I wanted to print. When I initiated the print option the system wanted me to save the documents with a .oxps format.
I am unfamiliar with this and hesitate to make changes. Can someone tell me more about this and how I should proceed?

I would not make the change.
Please save the file using the usual save procedures, using the .ods format>
What is an OXPS file
Please verify that the printer you want is the default printer, as it sounds like something has changed it to make your system think it wants to use a virtual printer (similar to making a PDF file)

I did, as you suggested, resaved the document as an ods file. Same result, it asked me to save as an osps file. Has anyone else had this happen? What would happen if I saved the document as suggested?

That dialog appears when you have the default printer set as "Microsoft XPS Document Writer". This is a virtual printer that creates .oxps files. This is similar to using a virtual printer to create .pdf files. Change your default printer printer settings in Windows to send the print output to your physical printer instead of the virtual printer.

Saving the .oxps file will just create a new .oxps file. It won't change the .ods file or actually print anything.

Can you select an another printer from the dropdown list (where the 'oxps' printer is appeared)?
I the answer is NOT:
If you have installed physical printers/s/ then try to reinstall them, or try to reset the user profile of the AOO.

If you have not installed any physical printer, then you need install one.
