Opening OpenOffice Delay

When I first open OpenOffice (any OpenOffice program), there is a long delay of nearly one minute. I suspect this is caused by establishing a website connection. Is there a way to avoid this annoying delay?

In Tools>Options>OOo>Online Update, switch off that feature not really necessary (new versions are released periodically, i.e. every 3 months.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the delay is caused by something else. Any ideas?
I am running Windows XP Professional.

Can you monitor the outgoing connections to check?
Do you have a roaming profile on network or just a local one?

Which version of OpenOffice are you using?

Do you have the quickstarter enabled (Tools > Option > OpenOffice.org > Memory)?
If yes: Does the delay also occur if all OpenOffice windows are closed, but the quickstarter is active (see system tray icon)?

What is your machine configuration? Processor speed etc. this can make a difference.
