Hello, and Happy New Year to all ! I'm a newbie here and have only one question.
My wife wants me to create two Character Letters, H and P both 8" x 4 1/2" on separate sheets of paper so that she can cut out wooden block letters from these characters.
I've been attempting to do this for the past hour, racking my brain within Open Office Writer, there has to be an easier way.
Please help.
Thanks for your help, in advance.

Re: Character Letters H and P
Greetings and welcome to the community forum, and happy 2017!
I find this sort of thing a lot easier to manage using OO Draw rather than OO Writer. Draw is free-form: you can make things any size and place them freely anywhere on the page.
It can be a steep climb f you're not used to working with an object-oriented drawing program, but it's worth some time to get familiar with the basics.

In the Writer applocation:
Just set the page size, and the character size as you want it... (You can not SELECT such huge character size from the menu, but you can write the size value into the Font Size box.)

Re: Character Letters H and P
If you are wanting to design your own letters use Draw. If you wish to enlarge letters from an existing font, use this sequence:
/Format /Page : Page tab and set the page to the dimensions you require (A5 may be near enough). Now Enter the letter on the page in any size. Select the letter, then /Format /Character : Font tab. The font size dropdown will only offer sizes to 96 pts, but you can manually enter sizes up to 999.9 pts. Experiment with size about 480 pt. You should use the same size for the other letter(s) so they match in scale.

Re: Character Letters H and P
Here's a sample you can try out.
It's difficult to get text characters to fit exactly to a specific size, so I made an 8 x 4.5" rectangle to act as a boundary, then made the text letters, made a copy, and used Modify > Convert > To curve to change the copy letter into a pure graphic shape, then fit that to the boundary.
The downside is that, if you want to change the letter or the font, you have to go back and edit the text object, then repeat the process to get the graphic shape again.

To save time, I used acknak's attachment w/ a slight modification. Thank you acknak for saving me hour's ... when I have more time to kill, I'll sit down and experiment.
But OOD is definitely the program to use, thanks again - have a great weekend !
