[Solved] Sort in Tables - cannot after insert new data

Post by sungnee »

Hello everybody

Hi! I'm new to the Forum. So forgive me if I breach any protocals. :)

I've got a range of lines that I have sorted successfully. However, after adding several new lines at the bottom, I couldn't get them to sort together with the old lines. They sorted separately, old and new, by themsleves.

Help!

Thank you all in advance.

Is is a Calc file or a Writer table?
Can you upload your example ODF file here?

Thank you. The file is a writer table. It has been attached.

It's in Chinese but all items begin with a letter of the alphabet. It's actually my wife's file.Using the alphabet she could locate an item quickly.

Look forward to your reply. :)

The sort function works fine for me. When I typed some text into a new row INSIDE the table (with item beginning letter "B" in the first column), then I selected all the cells of the Table, finally applied the Sort function, the rows was sorted as you expected. (I am using LibreOffice 4.4.7)

Thank you. Perhaps that's the trouble for us. We can't identify the end of the table and probably inserted text outside the table and Writer then created a new table. Pardon me for sounding really naive, how do we get Writer to show the boundaries of the table?

Thank you for your help. Really appreciate it.

Right click on the table and select Table from the menu. On the Borders tab click the Inner and Outer Borders button, which I have highlighted in red in the image below. Then pick a line size for the border and a color. When I opened your document, the color was set to white, making it invisible.

Thank you very much.

I can now see the table, but somehow I was not able to get Writer to show only the table boundary, because I only wanted to see the table boundary. I have tried clicking the "borders only" box, that is the 2nd box from left, but still there are lines surrounding every cell.

Thank you.

Try first clicking the No Borders button, which is the first one from the left and then clicking the Outer Borders Only button, which is the second one.

Thank you. However, for some strange reason, following your instructions does not get rid of the cell borders, no matter what I try. It almost seems as if each cell is a separate table. I have uploaded the file again for your reference.

Thank you in advance . :D

Select table, right click on it and turn off Table Boundaries from the popup. Your table is bigger than the page margins - you might wish to adjust this.
