Only one option in "paste special"

Post by Aarnout »

Hi, I'm trying to paste some pics (.fbd file = to make football plays) in openoffice writer but when I use paste special it only gives me "GDI Metafile" as an option. I've already tried changing the "user" file's name in Appdata, but I still can't get more options.

I'm using the beta version of OOo (3.0) after experiencing the same problem in OOo 2.4
I'm running Vista Home Premium

Sorry, what's the problem with pasting as a metafile?

The list of formats for paste special is negotiated as (a) what the source can provide, and (b) what OOo can accept. I don't know of anything you as a user can do to change it.

Sometimes an app can export content file formats other than what it can put on the clipboard; you can try exporting a temporary file in a format that OOo can accept.

Can you post a sample .fbd file here? I've never heard of that--what is it supposed to do?

The problem with pasting it as a metafile is that it pastes the pic outside of the page's borders and when I scale down the picture to make it fit, the part that was outside the page's border no longer appears.

.fbd is a file created by a free program called playmaker to draw american football strategies

A long way round, but you could use a screen capture program to snatch the display area of the other app and then save it as .png or something and insert that. You could use Gimp or similar to crop, resize etc.

Paste one of the diagrams into an OOo Draw document, save the file and attach it here.

Such metafiles are often usable, with some "fiddling", but I can't say what exactly without trying it.
