[Solved] Error when trying to save a document
[Solved] Error when trying to save a document
I have a HP pavilion m7-1015dx Windows 10.
On my open Office (OO) after I put the information in and try to save it, I get this drop down box: "Error saving the Document, (Write Error)
this file could not be written.
At first this did not happen, than it started doing it, a little at a time, it would save the Document, than it would not, now it will not save at all.
I Deleted OO from the PC than I went and installed it again, but got the same screen when I re-Installed it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You

Re: Error when trying to save a document
There are some topics about that, the last one a couple of days ago was linked to a security application. See this query.

Re: Error when trying to save a document
The surest way to pin down responsibility for this is to try to Save on your desktop. If the file Saves on your desktop you probably have not rights to save in your originally chosen directory. If it will not Save to your desktop then there may be a problem with your OpenOffice. This is a quick diagnostic; there are indeed conditions where the above conclusions are not correct, but they are rare.

Re: Error when trying to save a document
I'm a bit confused by your answer.
First you say: If the file Saves on your desktop you probably have not rights to save in your originally chosen directory.
So what do I have to do to remedy this problem and get, written permission to save my documents?
I have the icon saved to my Desktop

Re: Error when trying to save a document
Rights to save in a directory are an operating system administrator responsibility, nothing to do with OpenOffice,
When you say "I have the icon saved to my Deskyop" which icon do you mean - the icon of the folder of OO install files, or the icon representing the file you were trying to save elsewhere?

A file icon, open office 4.1.1 (en u installation Files
The other icon is, open office 4.1.2 and when I click on that icon, it takes me to my open office page.

Navigate your /File /Save As dialog to the desktop and see if your file will save there.

Re: Error when trying to save a document
Followed the instructions, nothing.
I uninstalled open office from the Control Panel, clicked on, restart and waited for the computer to come back on.
I came back into the computer, went to the open office download, and DL it.
It comes up on my desktop but when I click (open) a box pops up and gives me a choice to open, OO but all it does is show a white flash for a mili second.
If I click it 4-5- times, I'll go to the icon on the task bar and it shows the same message 4 or 5 times.
I thought if I uninstalled all of open office, that I could come back on and Install it like new.
I can't get it to do anything, I don't even see it in the control panel yet, it is on my Desktop.

Re: Error when trying to save a document
Have you downloaded the official version? There is a link bottom right of this page.
Do you still have an OpenOffice icon in the Start menu? It would mean that it was not completely removed.

Solved
I went too, open office and tried a DL again, and this time it worked.
So I got it back, and it works fine.
Thank you for the time spent helping with this problem.
