It appears that this is a setting for the printer, not an Open Office setting.
Using Writer, I can go to File -> Printer Settings, Properties, Advanced, Paper size
Changing this setting changes it for that document, and is saved for that document.
It makes sense to me that there should be a way of changing that, but, regretfully I was unable to locate the method.

Re: Change page size to A4 as default. I never use letter
Without a default template, the default page size should change depending on the Locale setting in Tools > Options > Language Settings > Language. An English (US) locale should produce Letter size pages. An English (UK) locale should produce A4 size pages.
Saving and using a default template as described in the link should change the page size to A4 on all new documents created using that template. This will not affect the page size in existing documents, imported documents and other documents created without using the template. The page size in those documents would have to be changed in each document.

The page size is set using Format > Page > Page > Paper format. The page size shown in File > Printer Settings > Properties > Advanced > Paper size appears to be a default size which may not match the Paper format setting. Selecting the same advanced settings using File > Print > Printer > Properties > Advanced > Paper size does display the actual Paper format setting of the document.RusselB wrote:Using Writer, I can go to File -> Printer Settings, Properties, Advanced, Paper size

Yes really stramge because I have done it many times, closed own the program and still it goes to Letter.
Now with the language set to English Australia not English USA, it comes to A4.
What if you are in a country who uses Letter but you need all your texts in A4..
You have to change your language ? Really ?

Re: Change page size to A4 as default. I never use letter
For a particular document which always come up with Letter settings rather than A4, bring it up for printing then:
Format -> Page -> Format -> A4, and save it again, before printing.
Make sure your language settings are set to English (UK) as described in an earlier post. Updates might change these to English(US) and any documents you write then will be Letter size by default.
By the way, this is on Windows 10 with OO 4.1.3 - I haven't discovered how to change the appendix to my posting yet.
