How do you know what's multi selected?

Just fiddling with selecting multiple objects and I can imagine that if there were a lot of objects involved and some of them were small, it could be hard to tell what was selected and what was not.
Is there an easy way?

For instance, I see that markers on the edges change color when I go from selecting a single object to when I add a second. and they move the the smallest outside border that would encompass both objects.

but what if there are additional objects within the bounds of the larger object? like the pink triangle in the attached.

Selecting : Square+Circle looks the same as selecting: Square+Circle+Triangle.

is there a way to know or do you just have to remember or go with trial and error?

It can be difficult to tell.

The status bar (bottom edge panel of the Draw window) can also provide clues. In your example, it would give the number of selected items.

I sometimes use the Shift+Click RoryOF mentioned in the other thread, in combination with the status bar. Shift+Click on the triangle would change the number of selected items, then again would change it back. This lets you toggle an item and depending on which way the number goes, you can tell whether it's selected or not.

Mouse pointer hovering over a selected object will change to the arrow-crosshair "move pointer". Works for some cases, but not in your example because hovering over the triangle will also be hovering over the selected square.

Use arrow keys. Single left, then right. Whatever moves is selected.
