Mouse scrolling speed on Calc is too fast
Mouse scrolling speed on Calc is too fast
How do I slow down the mouse scrolling speed on Calc. From what I've read the problem relates to the Open Office program. The problem is not related to mouse settings as there are no Apple Magic Mouse speed settings. My scrolling speed is acceptable in all other uses. This problem only occurs when I use calc.

Re: Mouse scrolling speed on Calc is too fast.
For me, each 'click' of the mouse wheel moves 3 rows up or down. If I want to adjust to a specific 1 or 2 rows I have to click on the arrows on the scroll bar to move 1 row at a time.
Is this 3-rows-per-wheel-click the behavior you are unhappy with? I'm not aware of any way to change it.

Re: Mouse scrolling speed on Calc is too fast.
Thanks for your input. The problem or any solution to the problem does not involve the mouse. The problem involves the programming by OO for the Calc. feature and the solution requires OO to change that programming.
When I simply nudge the mouse the calc sheet will zip many columns or rows up and down; requiring me to try to get back to the cell I was working with. Are there any programmers involved with calc who can change the programming of calc to solve this problem. Note: This problem has been noted for years by many other users; the usual reply is the problem is low priority so no one is trying to improve the programming. To me, the problem is very high priority.

This is a forum for users to help other users. Developers do not read this forum. If you want to attempt to bring this to the attention of the volunteer developers, you can register at bugzilla and file a feature request: https://bz.apache.org/ooo/
From your original post I thought you were using a wheel on your mouse to scroll. Most mouse wheels have 'clicks' and you can easily control scrolling speed by just doing one click at a time instead of 'spinning the wheel'.
From your next post that mentions you experience a problem with both rows and columns - and columns cannot be scrolled by wheel, I don't think - it sounds like maybe you are click-and-hold on the scroll bar and moving the mouse up and down or left and right?
If you don't like the interface Calc has designed for mice, why not use the keyboard to move around? The arrows allow fine movement and the page up and page down allow faster movement.

Re: Mouse scrolling speed on Calc is too fast.
MTP, Your suggestion hits the spot, I will make a feature request and I am removing this post from the forum. FYI The Apple Magic Mouse does not have a scrolling wheel. I just hold it lightly on each side and move my forefinger over the surface of the mouse, up,down, right, left to scroll. It works beautifully w/o problems.
The only other place I encountered problems is on the MacObserver site on Google. The scrolling is uncontrollable there and I do use the keyboard there but the scrolling there is still erratic. Your help is appreciated. Take care.

We prefer that posts not be removed, as this hides a solution and negates the work of volunteers who have put effort into dealing with that query.

Understood but according to MTP a solution will not be found on this forum, therefore further postings by anyone will be a waste of time and energy. Can we stop further postings w/o removing the topic ?

We can certainly lock the thread, but that prevents a fix being readily posted if one should be found. Usually a thread will drop off the radar and only receive new postings when there is a change in its circumstances.

I think there are, though. See the directions here: Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse: How to adjust double-click and scrolling speed in Liongarnold wrote:...there are no Apple Magic Mouse speed settings.

It is a problem of Magic Mouse. It is not a good Apple product. Some improvement installing Magic Prefs http://magicprefs.com

Re: Mouse scrolling speed on Calc is too fast.
I have a problem with Calc scrolling way to fast. I "believe" the problem only started recently. I am using version 4.1.11 on Windows 10 machine. I read on the "Writer" forum, many people having the same/similar problem. I want to share a couple of odd behaviors.
1. It seem that the scroll does not immediately stop when I stop moving the scroll wheel on my mouse, but instead slows to a stop as if it had momentum.
2. I have discovered that the problem goes away if I open a second iteration of calc. (Makes no sense to me.)
3. In the few minutes since I started posting, Calc is NOT scrolling too fast any longer and I have no idea why.
Does the issue go away for anyone else if they open two iterations of Calc at the same time?

Re: Mouse scrolling speed on Calc is too fast.
Yes, you are probably correct. However, if you have the problem, it makes it very difficult to work with Calc. It has to be a relatively simple issue to fix, once the cause is identified. Perhaps if more people report their symptoms, BZ could narrow the issue down.
