OOo 3 empty dictionary
I am using OOo3 Beta US English on XP Pro. When I view or create a document, the it acts as if there are no entries in the dictionary and everything is marked as mispelled. I've been searching around, but the things I find relate to 2.x and reference a file called dictionary.lst that I can not find anywhere (was this changed?).
THanks for your help.

Re: OOo 3 empty dictionary
Thanks for the response.
That helped me understand where the dictionaries are, but it doesn't help me with my problem.
The dictionary is installed, but it isn't working. I tried disabling and then re-enabling it, but that didn't fix it (Yes, I did restart OOo). I then tried uninstalling the extension and the re-installing it, once again restarting. I looked through the extensions site and couldn't find another US English dictionary to try.

Yes. There is a ABC✓ next to English (USA), which is selected in both the paragraph and character styles. I am using the default templates. Is there somewhere I can go to view the contents of the dictionary?
Also, just to clarify, my issue is not that spell-check isn't checking. It thinks that every word is misspelled. The dictionary appears to be installed, but empty. This happens regardless of whether I open an existing document or start a new one.

Re: OOo 3 empty dictionary
Weird. I've not investigated the dictionaries with the Beta version yet, so difficult to say. There is no way to look at the content of the dics (in fact, you can, it's the files en_US.dic and en_US.aff in the extension folder, itself in the OOo user profile for the beta version, but won't be of any help at all). If the files are here, then it should work, especially if the tick mark is shown.
Can you upload a sample file here; just to be sure there is nothing special with the file (see the upload attachment tab under the edition area when writing a message).

What is the exact path to the user profile? Is it under c:\documents and settings\username\application data\OpenOffice.org3\user? I see no extensions folder in there, nor in any of the subfolders.
I did a search of my HDD, but found no US_eng.dic or en_US.aff files. Perhaps there is a bug in the installer?

Your file is fine so it's indeed an issue with your system.
Yes, the user profile is in that folder, see if there is a uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\14E.tmp_\dict-en.oxt folder (or similar). If not in the user profile, it may be in the main installation folder under Program Files.
If the tick mark is shown, it means that the files are somewhere on your HD.

Re: OOo 3 empty dictionary
In C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\share\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages I have 11.tmp_, FB8.tmp_, and FBA.tmp_.
11.tmp_ has a dict-en.oxt. Inside are dic files for South Africa and Great Britain, but no US.
I dropped an en_US.dic and .aff I got for v2.4 in there, and it seems to have fixed it, at least for that file I attached. I will try out some other things before I call this solved, though. I do not have a US hyphen file, though.

Re: OOo 3 empty dictionary
Seems to be different under GNU/Linux: I've a /ooo-dev/basis3.0/share/dict/ooo folder with all the dictionaries like with former 2.# versions. If you've such a folder, copy and paste the content of the /share/dict/ooo from the 2.4 version to the 3.0 directory.
Have you tried to install the dictionary extension BTW?

Re: OOo 3 empty dictionary
So I had the same problem when I loaded the beta. My solution was to find the dictionary file in Application Data folder:
(For XP looks like this: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\OpenOffice.org3\user\wordbook)
And there were two .dic files. (One was a custom one) You can just replace the empty standard.dic with one from the 2.4 version found:
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\share\dict\ooo
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Still no dic? Have a look at that thread: OOo 3.0 Beta 2 dictionaries management or that one: [Solved] OOo 3.0.0 Beta dictionary files.
