[Solved] Having a problem with columns

Post by abewoelk »

I am doing a multi-page document in which each page will have columns but there will be a different number of columns on each page. For example, Page 1 will have 3 columns and Page 2 will have 2 columns.

At the top of the second page (which automatically had 3 columns since that's what the first page had) I tried to create a new section with two columns. What then happened is that I got two columns WITHIN EACH OF THE THREE ALREADY EXISTING COLUMNS, for a total of six columns on that page. I don't want two columns within each already existing columns, I want -- on that page only -- to replace the pre-existing three columns with only two. And everything I've tried to get only two columns on that page then automatically converts the three columns on page 1 (where i want 3 columns) to two columns as well.

So . . . how do I go from three columns on page 1 to two columns on page 2 (and then back again when I need three columns on a future page)? Thanks.

You want a new page style for the second page. The first page page style specifies three columns, then change to the second page page style which specifies two columns. If possible, use a manual page break to start the second page, then you can have that page break also switch page styles.
