[Solved] Table & Chart problem

Post by johnoo »

I have a table the first column being dates & the second being miles/year.
I have then compiled a chart of the results.
The problem is that the dates on the chart come out as :- 41754, 41389 rather than 24/04/14 & 25/04/13
The question is why & how do I correct.
Note I have gone into Table/Number Format/Date & have set this correctly.

Those look like date values. You should be able to set the axis number format to any date format you like.

I'm not sure why the chart isn't picking up the date format from the table, but you can just set a specific format for the chart axis labels.

Thanks for the help, but I've been into Format/X Axis/Numbers but the screen is not showing as being active.
What am I doing wrong?

You must uncheck the "Source Format" option at the settings of the X axis.
(or use real date type data in the X data range.)

I have tried unchecking "Source Format" but when I do this all of the numbers disappear, ie 41754 etc.!

I see this happening as well. It seems to be related to having too many labels. If you change the date format to something shorter (2/15 or Feb 15, for example) or if you change the label orientation to 90° (vertical) then the labels re-appear.

Many thanks to you both, at last done it.
Turned the label to vertical.
Now looking forward to Monday!
