Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? 3.0beta
What Operating System (version) are you using? WinXPro SP2
What is your question or comment?
When I select Open to open a file, the setting is All Files which shows PNG and other types of files. I would like All Files to show only OO-type files (Writer, Calc, etc) and then the additional options in the rest of the list to show specific filetypes such as JPEG or PNG, etc.
I would like to post this as a suggestion.

I like it as it is. You can filter the dialog's file browser by generic types text, spreadsheet, presentation, ...

Re: Open File Types suggestion
I agree.
All files should mean what it says — or at least all files that OpenOffice can open. At the moment, it will, for example, list PDF files that Oo cannot open (except as text), which confuses some users. Writer can open PDF files as text, but this is of limited useful (for Geeks only).
An option for All Pictures is not needed either as the right way to insert a picture is not from the File Open dialogue, but from the Insert menu — Picture, From File.
Try opening files from Windows Explorer, or put a Windows Explorer Folder on your Windows taskbar as a new toolbar.

Agreed, All Files should mean all files. I actually use that every once in a while. If it no longer truly showed me all files, I'd be very upset. I would also be very upset if the Open dialog only showed OOo file types. OOo can edit a multitude of file formats, so there is no reason to exclude them from the Open dialog.
If you want only OOo file types to show up, perhaps you could organize them into folders that you set up exclusively for OOo... or create folders to hold all the other file types you don't want All Files to display, so your main directory only includes OOo files.

I understand. However, I am hoping that either, someone will have a solution or that someone from the build team is watching these posts.TheGurkha wrote:We're just users here, we don't develop the software!jrickards wrote:I would like to post this as a suggestion.

The only way to get a suggestion to the development guys is to follow this tutorial, which tells you how to post suggestions and bug reports: [Tutorial] Reporting bugs or suggestions.
