[Solved] Insert Field - Page Number - Nothing there?

Post by MJBowers »

Just installed the latest update and when I opened a document I had been working on this morning - no page numbers in the footer. Just a " ", well a dot which shows up when I've got hidden characters showing. Thought maybe it was something that would still show up when printed - but nothing there either. I am working in .odt, not an RTF or other file extension.

*** figured out the first page not getting a page number *** (Sorry, still a little new to Office)

Thanks for any help!

Clearly... I need to spend more time with this program. After some investigation, I went to Insert - Fields - Other, selected Page and realized the format of the page was "As Page Style" instead of "Arabic (1,2,3)"

a-ha!
:D

"As Page Style" refers to the style of the characters used to display the page number. It means that the character's style is specified on the Page Style dialog. Right-click in the page and select Page. Click the Page tab and look at the Format box under Layout Settings. If the format is None, then the page numbers will disappear when "As Page Style" is specified.
