New feature in 2.3 is to hold down Control to activate links. Could also be that you turned of the create hyperlinks option in Autocorrect.

I have "URL Recognition" ON in Autocorrect-OptionsBhikkhu Pesala wrote:New feature in 2.3 is to hold down Control to activate links. Could also be that you turned of the create hyperlinks option in Autocorrect.
the "Control-key" does not seem to do anything
it all works on my laptop that has XP and Ooo Version 2.1
I JUST updated from 2.3.0 to Version 2.3.1 and still No "Edit-Activate Hyperlinks" in Status Bar
the software does not want to recognize LINKS automatically like it did before.
any ideas ??

I don't have the HYP/SEL option that the help file mentions. All I have is an asertisk in that status line field that seems to do nothing.
The autocorrect option is working fine, and links are active when I hold down control.

OK -- so we are in the same boat: the new version does not AUTOMATICALLY recognize links:Bhikkhu Pesala wrote:I don't have the HYP/SEL option that the help file mentions. All I have is an asertisk in that status line field that seems to do nothing.

links like "http://www.google.com" are thus not recognized as links like they used to be
and the HYP/SEL option has vanished
and YES: once LINKS are recognized the CONTROL key works fine.
thanks

That's a user preference setting. New version installations don't touch user settings at all.gene polotas wrote:OK -- so we are in the same boat: the new version does not AUTOMATICALLY recognize links:

Perhaps you had turned yours off at some point recently, maybe testing something, but forgotten about it. Sometimes a little electrical glitch can affect random bits and bytes in the computer, too, and occasionally the particular ones affected are for a program setting such as the one in question.
The new behavior, by the way, is a deliberate design change. The exact same change has been made in Microsoft Office too, presumably for the same reasons. Some people don't like it and among those are some who simply aren't used to the new behavior. Others, like me, find it a logical and reasonable change. It should have been designed that way to begin with, making it easier to edit the link without actually following it---because a word processor's primary function is creating and editing content---while following the link is just a key-press away.
Cheers!
