[Solved] Correct Password Not Working

Post by tealeaves »

Hi everyone,

I have password protected a few files and the password that worked in the past is no longer working. This is pretty frustrating! Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks

Remember that Passwords are case sensitive. Do you get any message? What is it?

I've tried both cases to no avail.

The error is "The password is incorrect. The file cannot be opened."

The thing is the password was one letter and worked fine for days until now.

Sucks cause I did a lot of work in those files.

Any suggestions?

There is at least one report of passwords not working on a Mac on OpenOffice Bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125431
I have added a link to this thread.

The answer seems to be to revert to OO 4.1.0 or OO 4.0.1, at least until this bug is fixed.

Thanks Rory. The version I'm currently using is 4.1.1.

Any ideas on which previous version to try. If you could provide a link that would be great!

Thanks,

Older versions can be downloaded from
http://www.openoffice.org/download
by using the dropdown selectors to choose the version/language/OS required.

i saw a case where a user had reverted to 4.0.1 but later stated he meant 4.1.0; however, English was not his native language, so I'm not sure just what he meant.

Hmm.. Tried both versions with no luck.

Any other ideas or is it looking like my work is locked away forever?

Thanks!

The password worked, as far as I remember, on non Mac versions, so it will be possible to open the files.
