While trying version 3.0 I have ran into a slight problem. The workbook I used with version 3.0 the DDE function does not appear to be receiving data (cells are not updating their data). When that workbook is reopened under 2.4.1 the DDE function nolonger works there either. Manually updating (F9) the data is updated under both versions.
Using another workbook that has not seen version 3.0 the DDE function receives data and updated the cells. Is there a way to activate or reactivate the DDE function in this workbook?
To change the subject, why do I have to register each time I want to use this database? Today I registered with the same userid etc, previously used and was allowed to enter.

Does the link appear in Menu:Edit>Links...? Is the link availlable? What is the exact formula including referenced values? You are aware that OOo 3 is far from beeing ready to be used in a production environment?

It's a DDE serverTo change the subject, why do I have to register each time I want to use this database?

All the links are listed there and set to automatic.
Source file: description Elemnet: .IBMCC Typr: TOS Status: Automatic
NET_Change IBM TOS
last IBM TOS
DDE($IT$1;"description";$C152)
$IT$1 = TOS
$C152 = IBM
DDE($IT$1;"last";$C152)
$IT$1 = TOS
$C152 = IBM
I would have given you more data, but the application would not let me past data for Snagit.
Yes, I know 3 is not near a full release at this time. But I like to break things, or see if what you think is logical and what I think are the same. Than there is this little problem. Maybe I was the first? Thanks.

Re: 2.4.1 to 3.0 DDE function stops functioning
I have not reported it as a bug. I am assuming that I have not set some, but I do not know what. If you think it is a bug I'll log it. This application has a few more options that can be set and unset than Excel. Case in point, when inserting new rows in a sum area. By default the new rows are not included the in the sum, unless you tell Calc to include the new rows in the sum under Tools.

Re: 2.4.1 to 3.0 DDE function stops functioning
The "normal operation" of DDE goes like this:
=DDE("soffice";"/path/document.xyz";"name_address_or_WriterBookmark")
"soffice" is OOo's own DDE server for internal use since most operating systems don't provide for DDE. "soffice" should keep on working withnew versions.
Now you are using an external server "TOS" which knows a source named "description" from where you can get an item named "IBM" (are you shure about those parameters?). From my experience in this forum and oooforum.org this seems to work with some servers, other servers don't play with OOo. If something used to work with 2.4 it should keep on going with 3.0 unless the feature is dropped for some reason.

You may be interested in my simple Python macro [Calc, Python] expand/shrink list ranges, best used with Ctrl+Ins and Ctrl+Del. It assumes that you want to expand the reference and turns on the option temporarily for insertion. It extends "sloppy selections" to the width of the current region, copies down formulas and finally selects the blank cells of the inserted row(s) for editing.Case in point, when inserting new rows in a sum area. Re: 2.4.1 to 3.0 DDE function stops functioning
Sorry about the delayed response, but I needed to wait for my DDE server to start making changed again. The DDE function works under 3.0 and 2.4.1. The problem comes when you open and save a 2.4.1 workbook to 3.0. Than open and save it under 2.4.1 again, at that point the DDE function stops functioning. I do not know what the forward and backward compatiblity is to be, but currently everyone will have to move to 3.0 at once.
