Hi,
I've been using OO Writer on Windows 7 for a while and it's great. I recently set up OO 4.1.0 on a new machine with Windows 8.1 and it's slower, especially when using the keyboard to move the cursor as I do all the time when writing. Should I give OO more space on the disk or something, and how?
Thanks!

Re: OO Writer slow on w8
Welcome to the forum.
It shouldn't be with a "normal" document. Test it with a document with three or four pages of text - is it still slow? Is something interfering with it? Start Windows in Safe Mode to disable all other applications and retry (Start > type msconfig and press enter > click on msconfig > General > tick Diagnostic startup. Now reboot the PC and it will boot into Safe Mode). Start Writer. Is it still slow?
If you search the forum with slow windows 8 you will find some posts bot they are typically specific problems with large files with lost of references etc.

| Edit: Be sure to note the msconfig settings so you can reset them afterwards |

How many characters, words and paragraphs? /File /Properties : statistics tab
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16 on Xubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
Re: OO Writer slow on w8
Thanks.
13500 characters, 28 pars, 5 pages...no footnotes.
But as I write this I see that I have the same effect when writing in Firefox. So it's not an OO problem after all.
Hope it's not compliments of W8.1 for all open source material!

I was asking for the statistics because if it showed 1 para and 64K chars we might have an answer.
I couldn't get Window 8 off my new laptop quickly enough - a snail would be faster. I've moved to Xubuntu on it.
Check safe mode, as John_Ha suggested. If it runs better in that mode then it is interference from some other program. Check also that you have latest graphics drivers. Only run one antivirus.

Re: OO Writer slow on w8
I'm trying both John's and Rory's suggestions.
I never anticipated W8 would have a speed problem, although I really objected to the apps look etc which I got rid of asap.
Thank you very much
