Help! Spontaneous shut down of word processing program

Post by kayla »

Does anyone know why this might be happening? My documents are spontaneously closing out. Open Office recovers the documents, but without any saved changes. It is happening with disturbing frequency. Perhaps having something to do with macros since it seems to happen more often in documents that have material pasted from the internet (not always). Can anyone help me?

You can try to upgrade (since latest version is now 2.4.1). But basically when pasting content from the web, you should paste as Unformatted text so that all the selection get stripped of any HTML formatting that could stick.

Do you save in .doc or native .odt format?

I usually save in .doc format. Would you recommend otherwise? Is there an obvious way to paste unformatted text from the internet into a document? THANK YOU for responding!!

You should always work in native .odt format and export a copy as .doc only if the document has to be edited by someone having only MS Office. If the document doesn't need to be edited, export as PDF.

For the paste options, long click on the paste button in toolbar or click its little arrow.

For pasting unformatted text you can also use the key combination Ctrl + Shift + V. Then you can choose between the different options for pasting
