[Solved] Change color of search result highlighting

Post by kidClean »

Hi,
I am using a grey background. When I use the search function to find a term, I find it hard to spot the results in the text. Is there a way how to change the color marking the results, for example to red? I tried to google this but couldn't find anything, neither in the Preferences menu.
Thanks!

Greetings and welcome to the community forum!

You can make the selection less transparent: Tools > Options > OO > View > Selection

I seem to recall that the actual selection color comes from the system/desktop settings but I could be wrong about that. As far as I know there's no setting for the color within OO.

Thanks acknak, that solved it for me - I just reduced the transparency. Have a nice day!

Yes! This is the answer I have been looking for, for a long time. (Just didn't look hard enough.) I just changed the "highlight search" on my MacBook Air. It is indeed under "System Preferences/General".

This makes highlighting so much easier to see. Only small problem is in my mail program the same highlight is very, very prominent. I can adjust to that.

I also found the "selection transparency" to be very useful in making it more prominent in any color. This however, is no longer under "tools". Now go to "preferences/OpenOffice/view" in order to change it.

Yeah, solved back in 2007, i.e. 7 years ago. However, this does not work in 2014 in OpenOffice 4.1.0. So how can I change the colour in which search results are highlighted?

The highlight color has never been configurable. Well, except for solid black: no transparency.

My understanding is that OO has a fallback default color, but it will prefer to use whatever you've configured for your desktop color theme, so you can try changing the color there and OO should pick it up.

So I should change my desktop colour theme to yellow? That's...

Unchecking the Transparency setting will show the result in inverted colours.

Inverted colours? That's not bad, but I would have preferred to change the highlighting colour for search results only.
