[Solved] CD Download Error

Post by johnd3754 »

Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using?
2.4
What Operating System (version) are you using?
windows xp
What is your question or comment?
Have tried to download 2.4. First time using BitTorent - took too long and it appeared that all threads had been lost so gave up.
Second time today using extended mirrors (CD download as I thought that its such a great program I would share it with friends and clients) it worked beautifully, download was extremely quick however after burning it to CD I tried to open it and found to my dismay that it won't open.
What have I done wrong?
My operating system - Windows XP
Version for download - ooo_240_win-lin-macintel_20080329.iso 02-Apr-2008 11:54 604M
Have I downloaded the wrong version?

ooo_240_win-lin-macintel_20080329.iso
from where?
What did you try to "open" the CD?
What do you see when you open the CD in a file explorer? The iso-file?

Pacnet mirror site - I just followed links from sun microsystems site.
I just clicked on the icon - as one would in order to install, or is there another way I should be doing it?
When I clicked on it it opened my cd burner.

When I clicked on it it opened my cd burner.
And then you burned a CD. Now what is is on the CD you have burnt? A hierarchy of directories and files or the single file ooo_240_win-lin-macintel_20080329.iso?

Please understand I'm not trying to be difficult.
That is all that it done - everytime I clicked on it - whether its on the cd or the desktop. There is nothing else on the desktop or the cd except the disc image - nothing.

OK, you're running Windows, which makes things complicated.
I guess, when you browse to the burnt CD (Win Explorer>Workspace>D: [CD Rom]) there is only one file on it: a copy of the downloaded file.
Drop that CD. Burn a new one. This time you tell the CD burner that you want to burn an image, which contains a hierarchy of folders and files. Every CD-burning program provides some option to burn raw images from a single file.

Looks like I need to load a different cd burner. The one I have installed at the moment is a default one with very little function. Thanks very much for your help and we'll see how I go tomorrow.
Bye for now :(

Deepburner is a free software that does a good job.

Do you really need a whole CD? Can't you put the installer on a thumbdrive?

NB: you should update your user profile (still at OOo 2.3.x).

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

I have just installed deepburner. I tried to open the image with it and it gave the following response:
External Exception EEFFACE
Then nothing happened
